Ghostvillage Project Video

Right, one last post before Christmas. We got an email about this project awhile back and a short trailer was released as well as some fantastic photos taken by Ian from Wallkandy here. Below is the full clip for The Ghostvillage Project.

The Ghostvillage Project from Agents Of Change on Vimeo.

The Ghostvillage Project was created over 3 days on the west coast of Scotland. 6 artists - Timid, Remi/Rough, System, Stormie Mills, Juice 126, Derm - were given free reign to paint in an abandoned 1970s village. Working together on huge collaborative walls and individually in hidden nooks and crannies all over the site the artists realised long held dreams and were inspired by the bleakness and remoteness of the site. Drawing on the history of the village the artists' stated intent on completion of the project was to populate the ghostvillage with the art and characters that it deserved.

Enjoy and we hope all our readers have a very Happy Christmas.

Mysterious Al - New Screenprint

London artist/illustrator and friend of Hookedblog, Mysterious Al has dropped a new screenprint for the Christmas season. The "Salboan Warrior Mask #5" (250-900 AD) screenprint pictured.

The print is a three colour, hand-pulled screenprint on A2, 270GSM recycled paper and printed using environmentally friendly gloss / matt water-based inks! It's a signed and numbered edition of just 40!

The image according to Al is based on a Salboan Warrior Mask.

"This warrior mask is believed to relate back to Mesoamerican Civilizations (250-900AD), the Mayan Calendar, and more specifically the 2012 Doomsday predictions.

"The Mayan's were skilled craftsmen as well as one of the first civilizations to follow a hieroglyphic calendar. They were incredibly intelligent and their prophecies contain complex, interlocking facts and cycles. If their predictions are correct, the world is going to end in 2012. At least that means we'll miss the bloody olympics".
The print is available for £60 over on Mysterious Al's online shop. Mysterious Al also has some very cool paper collage pieces on show at the Flyling Eye Ball Pop Up Shop {blogged here} currently running at 27 CORK STREET until the 12th December.

Dave The Chimp & EKTA

The Don Gallery in Milan have uploaded some photographs of the colorful large scale canvases and drawings that Dave The Chimp has made with Ekta for their current show at the Gallery. Here is what Dave The Chimp had to say about his collaboration with Etka

Every piece is a collaboration, with the idea being to experiment with new ways of working, and not to get stuck in our regular styles. No egos. Something that was maybe easier for me than for Ekta, which became apparent when people said "I can see Ekta's part, but what did you paint?" My answer was "I painted everything". Each piece is a total collaboration, so we both worked on the ideas, drawings, final paintings, etc. Unlike traditional collaborations we tried not to work on specific sections alone, but combine our work to create something new.
Head over to The Don Gallery website and check the other fantastic works. And don't forget Chimp is once again running his Xmas Lucky Dip where you can win some of his original works and zines. Read the details of the Lucky Dip here

FLYING EYE BALL Photos

We ventured out West last night to check out the opening of the Flying Eye Ball pop-up exhibition and shop (blogged here) on Cork Street in Mayfair. The exhibition and shop is open to the public from today, 9th December. Last nights opening was packed to the rafters. Both floors of the gallery were at capacity and the queues of people outside were offered frozen Alcoholic Slushies from an ice cream van as they waited to get into the gallery. Some of our favorite pieces at the show includes some fresh new paper cut characters from Mysterious Al, Shok 1's VHS cassette paintings and the typographic pieces from Shoe were also great. We managed to take a few photos, the gallery was so packed it made it a little difficult to get an decent shots. The show is on until the 12th of December, check it out if you are in Central London.Open to the public from the 9th December until the 12th, 10am- 8pm

Mike Ballard – The All of Everything

The final exhibition to take place at the Arts Gallery, before the building is demolished for Crossrail, is set to be fittingly epic. The gallery are to present the largest and most ambitious work yet by acclaimed artist Mike Ballard; from 10 December the Arts Gallery will become The All of Everything, a specially commissioned work which will turn the entire gallery space into an all-encompassing installation covering floors, walls and ceilings featuring the artist’s flamboyant vision of art history.

Here is what Mike had to say about the show:

“as it is the last show at the Arts Gallery, I wanted to go big, to give the gallery a good send off, by acknowledging all of its surfaces, preparing the space before it goes into the ‘other world’. With imagery from my own personal art history and music that has inspired my work, including flamboyant time travellers Sun Ra and RAMM:ELL:ZEE, I have selected guardians for the gallery as it goes to the other side of time.”
Howaboutno has been down to the gallery and had a sneak peak and judging from his photos above it's gonna be a fantastic and historic show.

To mark the launch TopSafe is hosting an exhibition at Mews of Mayfair, a unique and intimate venue in the heart of London, featuring original works and exclusive prints.

TopSafe artists are unique in the contemporary art market, united but not defined by their graffiti backgrounds, they create artworks that are distinctly different from the ‘Street Art' that is largely associated with graffiti, while retaining the energy and freethinking that is the hallmark of their outlaw practice. Black Dog Books
At Black Rat Press

We braved the London rain last night and popped down to Black Rat to check out The Black Dog Books pop-up shop (blogged here) in their gallery space. Some cool books on sale in the shop including Vandalogs recent publication the Thousands, also spotted Limited Editions of the Subway art book and they had copies of the excellent Swoon book (blogged here) which is worth making the trip to get a copy.
Alongside the books for sale, the gallery released a new edition from Elbow Toe. Some of you may have seen the stunning 'Brother, Can You Spare A Dime?' image from earlier this year on the streets of East London. Now in print form the image was released as an edition of just 50. Hand-pulled silkscreen on 250 grams Stonehenge Natural White moulde-made paper and 21 x 31 5/8 inches in size. The detail on the print was fantastic and it such a great image it was no surprise they were selling fast last night. I believe there were some left last night so If you are intereted contact Black Rat Press.
