Swoon

Hokedblog called over to Black Rat Projects space in East London yesterday to catch up with Brooklyn-based street artist Swoon ahead of her Murmuration exhibtion opening on the 1st December. The artist has been working in London for the last three weeks transforming the cavernous gallery space with a large scale installation for what will be her very first London solo show. We had previously mentioned the show, having posted one of the huge Swoon streetart wheatpasted pieces she installed on the streets a few weeks back.

The Murmuration installation is simply mind blowing and this is the Swoon show that her UK fans have been waiting to see. The gallery space has been completely transformed with a sea of Swoons elaborate paper cuts and huge towering three dimensional sculptural works, which have seen the removal of the galleries lighting system to accommodate their scale! We were fortunate enough to get to spent an hour in the space yesterday, our head spinning trying to take everything in. This is a show that you will want to  visit and revisit again and again and certainly one not to be missed by fans of the artists work.

After a very short chat with Swoon she was gone in a blur, with work still to be done she was whizzing around the gallery at lightning speed paint brush in hand scaling ladders finishing various pieces, all while directing a lighting crews and a team of gallery assistants who had begun to transform the space from an artists studio into what will become the Murmuration installation.

Our photos above are just a small teaser of what people can expect, we don't want to spoil the wow effect that we got on entering the gallery! Due to the sheer scale and the nature of the show we suggest those attending the show opening this evening get down there early as it's gonna be busy.

The show runs from December 2-January 14 2012.
