Belgian street artist Joachim's solo show in London

Late last year back in October while on a trip to Belgium, we spent a few days cycling around the city of Antwerp discovering some of the cities street art. One of those days spent in Antwerp we managed to catch up with Tim Marschang who is behind Street Art Antwerp website and a co-founder of the Street Art Cities app.

Running street art tours in Antwerp too makes Tim an expert on what’s happening in the city and he was a perfect guide to show us some of the more hidden street artworks dotted across Antwerp.

One of the local street artists whose colourful works we were shown by Tim while biking around was that of Antwerp street artist Joachim.

We had previously seen one of the artist’s black and white mural pieces here in London next to Hoxton Overground Station and on this Antwerp trip, we were introduced to some of the artist vibrant full-colour murals as well as some of his collaborative murals including the piece pictured below which he painted with artist Nils Westergard.

Joachim's solo show in London

Joachim has returned to London, on this occasion bringing his colourful works in from the streets into a gallery space in the Old Truman Brewery in East London. Following on from his sell-out show last year at Huberty & Breyne Gallery, Brussels, ‘Born To Paint’ is the artists debut London solo show.

Taking its title from his overwhelming passion to paint, Joachim comments about his non-stop desire to paint and create... "Every second of the day I'm creating art, even if I'm not doing it ... I dream about it! You could even say that other commitments, such as buying food or paying bills, things that other people find normal, slow me down... if it was up to me I would never eat again... art is what I was born to do!".

We stopped over to the pop-up space over the weekend to visit the exhibition curated by Rosh Boroumand co-founder Graffitistreet as well as catch up with the artist. Have a look at the photos we took at the space and be sure to stop by the exhibition which runs until the 10th March.
