SAVE THE LIGHT
I have to be honest, I'm not a massive fan of The Light bar itself but you have to agree that the building the bar is housed in is fantastic. Built in 1893, this former power station is an historic landmark. It is the first building that you see in Hackney when you approach from the City and as such it separates two very different areas. Now yet another 53 storey tower of steel wrapped in glass is proposed on the site – threatening 233 Shoreditch High Street with demolition. Developments of this scale will not only destroy the setting of Shoreditch's historic streetscape, they will also cast many commercial and residential buildings into shade. The fate of The Light, is going to be decided on the 23 January 2008, please act quickly by letting Hackney council know your views on the Bishop Place proposal.
