*[AD - Press Trip] Our trip to Ostend saw us collaborate with Toerisme Oostende, who was kind enough to host us at the Upstairs Hotel during our visit to the city for The Crystal Ship Festival.



Hookedblog has touched down in the coastal city of Ostend, Belgium for the contemporary street art festival The Crystal Ship. We had a super early start catching the 8.16am Eurostar train to Brussels from London’s St Pancras International station.

Following on from last years first edition, Festival Iminente returns once again invading Brick Lane’s Old Truman Brewery to brings the soul of Lisbon to the heart of East London. This years edition will see an additional day added, making it a three-day festival of explosive and experimental Portuguese and international art and music.

Hookedblog has just returned from a few sunny days spent in Aberdeen, Scotland for the second edition of the NuArt Aberdeen festival where 12 international and national street artists were invited to the city to paint as part of the festival.

The start of the month saw us travel to the Belgian coastal town of Ostend for the annual Crystal Ship contemporary and street art art festival. Now in it’s third year the festival curator Bjørn Van Poucke continues to impress with his invited selection of both international and national artists who paint and install works right across the city.

The eyes of the global street art community will shift their focus to Aberdeen, Scotland this weekend as 12 international, national and local street artist invited as part of the NuArt Aberdeen Street Art Festival unveil their latest works across the streets of the Granite City.

We are well into 2018 and while there is no sign of the slightly warmer spring weather, the colder spells we have been having here in London has not stopped the street artists from getting up on the cities walls and streets.

This months photographic selection features some new pieces, one or two we revisited along with one mural we photographed in Milan. Artist featured in our February selection include the London street artist Ronzo, Italian artist Giacomo Bufarini aka RUN, Belgian street artist DZIA, Italian street artist Zeds1, French street artist ADOR and a bonus extra image from London based street artist Fanakapan. 05. RONZO

Painted back in 2016 in the East London borough of Waltham Forest this mural by London based street artist Ronzo is not the first time this work has appeared on the site or on the Hookedblog Instagram feed.

Ronzo was invited by local arts based collective Woodstreet Walls to paint the E17 mural named 'All Good in The Wood', located just a few minutes walk from the Wood Street overground train station next to The Duke pub. While revisiting the neighborhood to photograph another new street artwork we took the opportunity to reshoot this piece by Ronzo. The light was much better than on our previous visit to this piece and we were lucky with the bright blue winter sky behind making the colours pop in the photo!

04. DZIA

We took a hop and jump from East London down South of the river to Penge to check out some of the street artworks going up in the neighborhood.

The collection of murals and smaller street art pieces in Penge is part of London Calling blog's #sprayexhibition20 which has seen him inviting local and international street artists visiting London to paint on walls beyond the usual London street art hot spots of Shoreditch, Brick Lane and Camden.

Known for his colourful murals primarily depicting wild animals this piece pictures is the work of Antwerp-based Belgian street artist DZIA.



03. Fanakapan

London based street artist Fankapan has been a regular on the site the last few months. The artist has been painting these set of metal gates along the canal in East London for some time now, repainting them frequently with new works.

With Valentine’s Day falling at the start of the month, Fanakapan's most recent mural piece saw the artist spraypaint a love heart shaped helium balloon. We caught up with the artist while he was working on this mural and have previously shared some of the work in progress shots on the blog if you missed the post follow the link below.

02. RUN

Painted last year, this striking mural by Italian street artist Giacomo Bufarini aka RUN was featured on the blog when we caught up with Run back in September 2017.

We featured a selection of work in progress images of the street artist working on the mural but we never shared the completed mural on our Instagram account until February.

01. ADORE

Pictured is one of a number of murals painted in Waterford, Ireland by French street artist Ador. This larger piece was painted by Ador as part of the 2017 Irish street art festival Waterford Walls. We spent a few days in Waterford for the festival and are hoping to return again for this years edition taking place over 10 days from 17-26th August 2018.

One last image for this months selection as promised - our bonus image was one of only a few street art pieces we managed to see on a quick stopover in Milan earlier this year.  We were on our way to Pila in the Aosta Valley region of northern Italy to practice our pizza slicing on some snow-capped mountains. We spotted this awesome piece by artist Zeds1 while we were en route and just had to stop the car to take some photographs of the piece.

International street artists are beginning to make their way to the costal city of Ostend to join their Belgian counterparts for the contemporary art festival The Crystal Ship.

Late last year back in October while on a trip to Belgium, we spent a few days cycling around the city of Antwerp discovering some of the cities street art. One of those days spent in Antwerp we managed to catch up with Tim Marschang who is behind Street Art Antwerp website and a co-founder of the Street Art Cities app.

Running street art tours in Antwerp too makes Tim an expert on what’s happening in the city and he was a perfect guide to show us some of the more hidden street art works dotted across Antwerp.

Just before the holiday we shared one of two new mural pieces paint out in East London by street artist Fanakapan. We were surprised to see the artist out painting as this is traditional a time when most people begin to win down for the holiday season.

On a recent visit to Hackney Wick in East London while out on a street art treasure hunt for the miniature Pablo Delgado street art works we also spotted the remains of a series of paste ups pictured.

We were first introduced to the work of American Street artist Eddie Colla earlier this year while we were on a trip to Paris over the summer.

Over the past year as part of an ongoing series we have been sharing a selection of Instagram images here on the blog which we have posted to the social media platform - posting the top five images most liked photographs from each month as chosen by our Instagram followers in the form of their likes.

We have been nominated in two catagories, Art & Culture and Photography!

New York based artist Jordan Seiler has just announce the release of a small self published book of his Collisions series of works and is availabe to now purchase online.

Seiler's Collisions Zine Number 1 is a 6"x8" 56 page augmented reality enhanced zine. In it there are 15 images from the ongoing series, a few poignant quotes, along with 3 beautiful essays by his friends and colleagues Jeff Ferrell, Carlo McCormick, and Thomas Dekeyser. According to Seiler,  their thoughts transform this from a book of images to something much more inquisitive and I greatly appreciate that'.

The zine has been released in an edition is 400, with numbers 1-100 having a hand made book cloth cover plus some postcards for a little extra. Regular versions of the zine are $30 dollars available online via his Public Ad Campaign online shop here.

From the madcap mind of illustrator / street artists Ronzo and Gordon from DifferentCloth, Derrick first wreaked a path of destruction on the Playstation Network (2012) and later on Steam (2014) but as of the 6th of December 2017 their indie game ‘Derrick the Deathfin’ is swimming menacingly towards your mobile phone.

In our ongoing street art gallery blog series we started this year, we have been sharing our most liked street art Instagram photographs from each month as selected by you are followers based on your likes and comments. Our October selection of photographs features works from artists Invader (Previously on Hookedblog), ROA (Previously on Hookedblog), Resto, Ant Carver (Previously on Hookedblog) and Outings Project —  have a look at the collection of images below.

Stavanger has in recent years become the must-visit European Street art hot spot. Located on the western coast of Norway, and known to many as the energy and oil capital of Europe, Stavanger has slowly been gaining recognition globally for the cities art and culture and is now considered one of the world’s leading destinations for Street Art by fans and enthusiasts.

London based artist and illustrator Ben Rider better known to some by his street name Zombiesqueegee has been recently hitting the streets of East London with a vibrant series of layered hand screen printed posters.

London based artist Fanakapan recently completed work on a new piece on a set of gates along the Regents Canal in east London. He has previously painted another set of gates with Snoppy and Woodstock characters in a piece Fanakapan named Woodstock Got High which we have previous featured on the site.

Portuguese artist Add Fuel is the latest artist to add his work to the walls of Stavanger Airport, in Sola, a municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The project was curated by the team at NuArt who also hosts the annual NuArt Festival in Stavanger.
