Banksy Time Out London Cover

We are looking forward to checking out the new Banksy movie "Exit Through the Gift Shop" tomorrow in the pop-up cinema Banksy has built in Leake Street.

The movie itself goes on generally release next week, March 5th. To tie in with the release of the film, Banksy has produced an exclusive piece of cover art for the next issue of Time Out London magazine which is set to go on sale tuesday March 2. According to Time Out "the cover, a mixture of self-portraiture and spraypaint, is unlike anything he's ever done for a magazine before and may never be repeated." In addition to the cover, Time Out London's Visual Arts Editor, Ossian Ward, conducted a rare interview with Banksy.

Bast - Fresh New Work

Stunning new original works from Bäst have just appeared up on his blog. Pictured above are two of three new works posted. We hope these original collage pieces get released as screen prints and or maybe posters as we would love to see them on the streets. Awesome.

Check the full set over on his blog here. And if you are in London don't miss The Faile / Bäst Fluxx Deluxe still running at Lazarides on Greet Street. {blogged here}.

Click the image above to see some of the details in the larger image.

Luzinterruptus In New York

We are loving the latest intervention from the Luzinterruptus team. The piece was created in New York and titled “Literature versus traffic”.
"800 books with light became the conqueror of public spaces, offering to those who walked by, a space free of traffic which for a few hours of the night will succumbed to the modest power of the written word."
Read and view more about this fantastic installation over on their blog here.

Eelus - The Colour Out Of Space

We mentioned the forthcoming Eelus debut London solo show, "The Colour Out Of Space" back in January {blogged here} and tomorrow night the 25th February we will finally get to see the new work Eelus has been working on the last few months.

Set to feature a collection of brand new paintings and prints on canvas, wood and metal including the image pictured, entitled 'Dress up' which has been lovingly screen print as a 30 colour screen print and is one of two show prints which will be available on the night of the opening. Both will then be available online the following morning for those not able to be in London.

Tomorrow it set to be packed so we would advise getting there early for the private view and unless you have tickets for the screening of the Banksy's Exit Through The Gift Shop movie in the pop-up cinema in Leake street then you have no excuse really for not being there.

Private View, Thursday, 25 February 2010 18:00; The show will then run until the 6th March.

ZEZÃO London Lecture

Zona Cerealista - Centro de SP 2009
Zezão, is a street-artist from Brazil, whose work reacts to, frames, and draws its aesthetic from São Paulo's chaotic urban landscape, which is sloppy with its public space, with its rivers and its trash. Embodying skate and punk culture, he creates interventions within the cockroach and rat infested infrastructural bowels of the city, using graffiti, video and photography to produce site specific installations in sewers, under derelict transport structures, and in precarious storm-water drainage channels.

Zezão has participated in solo and group exhibitions worldwide, including at the MASP- Museum of Modern Art in São Paulo, at the Scion Gallery in Los Angeles, at the Une Festivalle in the LJ Gallery in Paris as well as at the Namefest World of Graffiti event in Prague.

Tonight in London at the Architectural Association School of Architecture from 6pm a workshop and lecture by Zezão, on city works, hosted and introduced by Franklin Lee.

Details:

Torn: A Decade Of Faile - Retrospective

And the count down has begun. We are getting super excited here at Hookedblog  about the Faile Bast exhibition which  opens later this week.

We mentioned the show back in January {blogged here} and since then the above preview image has been released. It's been a very long time since Faile and Bast exhibited together. We could be wrong but we think the last time they worked on a joint  show here in London was way back in 2002 at the former "This Way Up" Gallery on the second floor of The Dragon Bar  on Leonard Street where the entire space was covered floor to ceiling in their signature paste-ups.

Bast and Faile have both come along way in the last eight years and as excited as we are about seeing new works from both these Artists it will also be fantastic to see works from the Faile 10-year retrospective that is also planned to run alongside the group show. The 'Torn: A Decade Of Faile' retrospective opens Friday 12th February at Lazarides Rathbone Place venue. The Faile Bast Deluxx Fluxx Arcade also opens on the 12th February at Lazarides Greek Street space.

Steve Powers - A Love Letter for You

"A Love Letter For You - Brick Valentines On The Philly Skyline" documents the art and the neighborhood that inspired this ambitious public art project.

In 1984 Steve Powers started climbing rooftops in his neighborhood and painting his alias ESPO as a dues paying member of the ICY graffiti club. 25 years later he returned home to Philadelphia in the summer of 2009 to write a love letter across the same rooftops facing the Market-Frankford line. The letter, meant for one, with meaning for all, encompasses 50 walls on a 20 block stretch of market street. Drawing input, inspiration, and work from the community Powers created a letter to and from west Philly. This unprecedented public art project was a collaboration of Powers, The Mural Arts Program, and the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage. It required 1200 cans of spray paint, 800 gallons of bucket paint, and the skilled hands of 20 of the finest spray painters in America, who Powers put into the legendary ICY club.

The books is now available online at Free News Project for $19.95.

Streetart - Dalston Bus Depot 2005

Back in June 2005 a group of street / graffiti artists took over the walls of an abandoned East London bus depot/ crack den in Dalston. We were there and took a bunch of photographs.

Having just recently found the pictures again on a disk after a spring clean last week, we have put some of them together in this clip. This is out first upload to Youtube and we haven't worked out the best size, format to ensure it looks its best so watch the video in HD if you have a fast web connection. But is is good to be able to share them online, as we had believed they were forever lost via a stolen computer of ours. Photos feature the works of some talented artists and friends including What Collective (Richt, Gumbo, Oath and 45RPM) , Dave The Chimp, PMH, Busk, Blam, Showchicken, mjar, Sri, Thought Police, Skire, Adam Neate, Jerm, Herse, Fybe, Probs, Pheks and Ink Fetish to name a few. Enjoy.

Matt Stuart - Look Both Ways Show

Matt Stuart’s work features opportune street scenes which reflect the absurd and fleeting nature of life. How many times have you seen something, wished you had your camera only for the moment to instantly pass? Armed with a small Leica camera, patience and lots of optimism, Stuart captures those moments where others fail.

Stuart’s photographs are a series of happy accidents taking place in crowds, on the tube, in the park and in cars. Stuart obsessively shoots everyday, everywhere he goes.

The result of this passion and his fascination with people and the way they live their lives will be shown as a collection at KK Outlet for the first time. Some images are so absurd they almost look staged, but these are totally genuine and original, all caught by the masterful eye of Stuart.

Private View: Thursday 4 Feb, 7-9pm
Exhibition Runs: 5-26 Feb
