Guerilla Art Book Launch

International street artists are currently conquering the art market, with auction houses, collectors and galleries demanding top prices for their work. Guerilla Art is a new book by Sebastian Peiter and Goetz Werner and published by Laurence King.

The book is packaged with a DVD and features interviews with key artists including Banksy, Futura, Ramm:ell:zee, Os Gemeos, Invader, Barnstormers, WK Interact, Zevs, Blek le Rat, Andre, Noki and Eine.

Graffiti-inspired street art pioneers Futura, Ramm:ell:zee and Blek le Rat discuss their own work, how street art was born out of the days of subway train graffiti, spraypainting and tagging, and how the new movement of street artists are doing things differently. Filmed in New York, London, Paris, Sao Paulo and Tokyo, the accompanying documentary shows the artists at work: Zevs practising his 'Visual Kidnappings' of advertising billboards, Blek le Rat sticking up outsized stencils, Os Gemeos painting their lyrical, folklore-inspired murals; and Invader putting up his unique mosaic wall tile images.

To mark the launch of the book Pure Evil Gallery in East London are hosting an evening of Art, film and music this Thursday 30th April. Live music from DJ Barney Doodlebug and a film screening at 18.30 and 19.30. An event not to be missed if you are in London.

Meryl Donoghue @ StolenSpace

StolenSpace are proud to present Meryl Donoghue’s premier U.K solo exhibition ‘Once Upon A Lie’ this thursday.

Donoghue’s current work is comprised of a collection of large-scale gyclee prints, depicting a series of strikingly lit human/animal hybrids arranged in black space. These images, born from pencil drawings, are digital creations. Transferred from page to screen, constructed from photography and then manipulated. The final images possess a sense of magical reality, underpinned by the suggestion of something more sinister and foreboding.

The new work in ‘Once Upon A lie…’ is inspired by stories that the artist has heard and events in her life that hold sway over her. It is a portrayal of desperate circumstances with unsettling and incalculable outcomes and in part pays homage to past writers, poets and musicians whose work has fuelled her imagination and inspired invention.

The show opens 30th March and runs until the 10th May.

Banksy Work @ Andipa Gallery

Andipa Gallery presents an exhibition of 20 original works on canvas, pallet and steel by the UK's leading urban artist, Banksy, including the largest canvas to become available, measuring fourteen feet in length.

Andipa was the first gallery to put on a major exhibition of Banksy's work in the secondary market, showcasing one of the largest collections of the artist's work. Over 25,000 people visited the gallery during the exhibition in 2008 to view one of the most extensive private surveys of the artist's work brought together in recent years.

"Banksy continues to defy the establishment with poignant commentary through his street work. He continues to evolve and adapt as an artist, as we saw with his response to the New Orleans anniversary and his New York Village Pet Store creations last year. He's always one step ahead of the game, reasserting freedom of speech through both his street and his studio works."
Acoris Andipa, Director, Andipa Gallery
The show opens tomorrow night 23 April and runs until the 16 May 2009
Please Note: Andipa Gallery does not represent Banksy. This is an independent exhibition and the artist is not involved.

Roman Klonek @ Kemistry Gallery

The work of Polish-born Roman Klonek is largely influenced by Eastern European cartoon styles. In the 1990's he studied Graphic Arts in Düsseldorf, where he discovered a passion for woodcut printing.

The prints he creates are populated by a wide range of whimsical creatures, mostly half animal/half human, and often presented in awkward or hair-raising situations. Klonek succeeds in creating worlds featuring a bizarre balancing act between folklore and popular culture; the reduced forms of the woodcuts he produces are reminiscent of the first days of comics and cartoons. He founded the Gallery Revolver in 2001, bought a printing press and started a never-ending range of woodcut printings. Roman Klonek works together with friends in a studio in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Kemistry Gallery will be exhibiting a range of Klonek's woodcuts created especially for the exhibition, which will be available for purchase exclusively from the gallery or the webshop.

The show opens 16th April and will run untill 30 May 2009

THE LONDON POLICE @ StolenSpace

The London Police aka TLP started when two English geezers moved from London to Amsterdam in 1998 to rejuvenate the visually disappointing streets of the drug capital of the world. Famous for their lovable & iconic ‘Lads’ characters which have been seen on streets all over the world.

The ‘TLP’ members have come and gone, but now, after 10 years the two founding members have rejoined to bring together their unique styles in a strong collaboration for this much anticipated London show, entitled ‘10 years On The Circle Line’

This show is a celebration of a decade of work by the duo and for the 1st time collaborating what has become vastly different styles. While one artist’s skill at drawing a circle ‘freehand’ is staggering, no compasses, guides or masks are used. While the other, since his departure in 2004, has developed his own imagery, an architectural style of line drawing. In these playful fantasy cityscapes ‘the lads’ are constructed and move around freely, in turn helping to build further elements of the city. They wanted to create a place full of interaction between their circle drawing and line drawing.

This show will feature new works from the The London Police on linen & canvas, video installation and photography.... as well as see the release of a new limited edition hand pulled screen print.

The exhibition opens tonight 9th April at StolenSpace with a private view from 6pm.

StolenSpace | Dray Walk | 91 Brick Lane | London
The show will run until 26th April.
