Graffiti Argentina Book Release Party
Next Friday 27th March will see the London launch party of Argentine author Maximiliano Ruiz's Graffiti Argentina book.
Graffiti Argentina is the first book about the local graffiti scene, which in the last few years has become one of the most original and recognized in the world. This book traces the story of Argentina's vibrant but little-known graffiti scene in four parts – from the efflorescence of graffiti in the 1990s and artists' city escapades, to the underground use of tags, train graffiti and political paintings, and the sketches and designs that have come off the street to influence the whole visual culture of this exciting country.
"The difference between our graf and what you find in other countries is to do with where it came from and the way it's accepted by society. Here you don't have to creep around painting in secret, and this openness and ease helped graf to flourish. That's what foreign writers love about Argentina: no one tells you off, they might even give you a big pat on the back, and that's something we have to make the most of while we still can." TEKO
The events, organized by the Maximiliano Ruiz, will be focused on promoting Argentine Street Art along with the Graffiti Argentina book. Barcelona will host the first edition of the event at RAS library, followed by the UK premiere at the Pure Evil gallery in London, where the special guest Argentine artist Caru along with UK artist Roughe will join forces to make an original abstract graffiti piece.
The event kicks off at 7pm on Friday 27th March 2009 with DJ Fenna Rhodes and hip hop band True Ingredients in charge of the night’s beats. This is a free event.

Eine-Screen printing world record
Nelly Duff Gallery have teamed up with their good friend EINE and a collective of mad artisan printers, who are making an attempt to break the screen printing world record.
With six weeks of non stop pulling screens by hand for each and every print, they will be attempting to have the most spot colours ever printed on an editioned artwork.
The edition is based on the internationally recognised Shutter Font A-Z canvas artwork by the king of fonts; street artist Ben EINE. An edition of 150 - they will be numbered and signed by Eine. No hints yet as to how many colours but looking at the above image it look like a lot!!
Thursday May 7th will see a special exhibition to celebrate the attempt where you can come and count how many for yourselves. The print release will be staggered, the first release will be online at Nelly Duff on Wednesday April 22nd for all you early birds, with half the edition saved for a special release at the show.

Word To Mother @ StolenSpace
‘Lost For Words’ opens at StolenSpace, in their Dray Walk Gallery on the 19th March and will showcase new works by artist Word To Mother. This much anticipated solo show, his third at StolenSpace, will feature paintings in mixed media on wood, canvas, found objects and installation pieces. This show will also see the release of limited edition wooden boxes hand made by the artist.
This new collection of work sees WTM delve deeper into his obsession with nature and the hand made. Suggestions of nostalgic sign writing and unmistakable WTM figures feature within a salvaged environment where they appear to have existed for years. The introduction of lonely astronaut characters immersed in clouds encourages the viewer to ‘Keep their head in the clouds’ as WTM says, embodying the feeling of retaining individuality and staying true to oneself instead of conforming to a plastic lifestyle. The show title, ‘Lost for Words’ sees WTM’s love of wordplay and suggests that all the lost and discarded objects that have been used, made their way especially to him. In this new work there is a definite feeling of nostalgia, times of when we dreamt of what we could be rather than what we should be.

Dalston Banksy Trashed

Banksy, by invisiblemadevisible
We headed up to Dalston's Gillett Square today, to snap one of the newest Banksy stencils.
Having being up on the streets of East London for less than a week this is what we found this afternoon. The piece had been tagged up with " God, Love, Not Money"
Hackney Co-operative Developments, who owns the leasehold of the building, were set to take legal action to stop the council cleaning it off. It is now very likely that this will now be removed now that its been tagged up. While this must be one of the shortest lived Banksy street pieces, some are happy to see it tagged up rather than it end up behind some perspex sheet.
