New Exhibition @ Kemistry Gallery

No understanding between the brain and the hands is a collaboration between Pocko photographers and illustrators. Inspired by Metropolis, the 1927 silent science fiction film created by the famed director Fritz Lang, five of Pocko’s photographers have collaborated with nine different designers to create interpretations of the film.

From strange creatures taking over the concrete jungle to our understanding of the city as a living organism, the images created as part of No understanding between the brain and the hands reinterpret Lang’s urban dystopia, creating new versions of the city as we know it today. Questioning the relationship that we share with the city, the joining of photographers with illustrators has resulted in a striking collection of images that challenge our place within today’s metropolis.

Accompanying the exhibition is issue one of Pocko Times, a large format collection of visuals with accompanying short stories from the work of the Pocko Network.

Joe Holbrook Exhibtion @ Bodhi Gallery

Bodhi Gallery on Brick Lane, relaunches this evening the 25th February with the opening of “21” a collection of paintings by Joe Holbrook.

Not many people can say they have put together a collection of work ready for their debut at the age of 20. But Joe Holbrook is one of the few that can, coming from a south London borough he brings to Bodhi his “21” exhibition, a series of portraits from the night life which we all love and can relate to. His paintings focused on the body of his chosen subject showing how body posture, and the garments which we wear often says a lot about us. All his canvases are painted in acrylics, then covered in a clear resin giving the impression it is finished with a layer of glass.

Joe Holbrook’s debut show will be taking place at Bodhi Gallery from 7pm on the 25th of February till the 4th of March 2009.

David Bray @ Stolen Space Gallery

'Thee Soft Verge' is David Bray's second show at StolenSpace Gallery opening this evening 19th February.

Using basic drawing tools, such as pens, pencils and paper, Bray creates delicate and time-consuming drawings which explore emotion, utopia and a world of fantasy through his subject matter of the beautiful and erotic, but the unattainable female form. His compelling works reveal his lifetime love of drawing and a very active imagination taking the viewer into his dark, amative world of fantasy.

'Thee Soft Verge' will showcase his new body of work which finds itself blended into old notebooks and antiquated objects, toying with the idea of life and death, heroes and villains. "It is about taking the viewer to a place of safety, but where you then become trapped, within my headspace. They won't be able to return to the same thing afterwards."

Stolen Space Gallery | Dray Walk | 91 Brick Lane | London
The show will run until 15th March.

Artists 11 - Exhibition & Auction

1 in 11 men will get prostate cancer – an alarming statistic, and a largely unknown fact.

To generate awareness of this, 11 internationally renowned urban artists have been commissioned by Artist 11 to create works to be auctioned as part of Bonhams’ Urban Art Auction on 24th February, with proceeds from the works going to The Prostate Cancer Charity, the UK’s leading charity working with people affected by the disease.

The reputable artists including D*Face, Dan Baldwin, Eine, Pure Evil, Gerald Laing, Andrew McAttee, Blek Le Rat, Mr Jago, Nick Walker, Pete Fowler and Xenz are reaching out to the younger generation to highlight the issue through the broad appeal of urban art, as well as giving something back to the wider community.

Prior to the auction, an exhibition will be held at The Truman Brewery from 12th to 17th February in order to preview the huge works. Reaching 175 x 60cm, the dimensions of the canvases are those of an average man; the life size work emphasising this very real life problem. Every year 35,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in the UK and one man dies every hour of the disease – a shockingly real issue.

Private View 11th Feb, 6.30pm
The pictures will be exhibited from 12th – 17th February 2009

Jasper Goodall - Poster Girl Exhibition

The East Ends newest gallery,Electric Blue Gallery plays host to a collection of new works by the hugely influential graphic artist Jasper Goodall.

Goodall rose to public attention with his style defining work for The Face magazine in 2000-2003 influencing a generation of illustrators and helping pave the way for illustration's resurgence and reinvention in recent years. Here Goodall presents for the first time, his first solo show of personal work in a gallery environment.

Entitled 'Poster Girl' the work explores the notion of fantasy versus reality, a subject which has fascinated Goodall for some time.
"Sexual attraction, I believe is almost entirely down to our fantasies, after all when you first meet someone you don't know them, but you make up and idea about them in your mind and it's this fantasy that you are attracted to. Once you get to know them, all too often the fantasy doesn't match with the reality, I think it's why such a large proportion of relationships don't really get off the ground!"

Electric Blue Gallery | 64 Middlesex Street | London E1 7EZ

The exhibition will open on the 6th February and will run throughout February,
