55DSL Christmas Shopping Evening

Launching on the Grazia magazine shopping evening where Carnaby Street goes wild and lets people collect special gifts, money off and even some type of drink/food depending on what the retailer is offering, 55DSL is up to its usual tricks! Get to the store on the corner of Newburgh Street and you could be in for a freebie worth the walk.
Madcap Matt Sewell and gigantic Jonny Fu (A.K.A. Ron Jonzo, Ronzo) will be creating hand illustrated Christmas Cards so as well as taking home the latest from 55DSL you can have your own unique piece of artwork, a perfect gift for friends and families, but to be honest they will be so good you might just want to send one to yourself.
Music will be provided by DJ NickName and shoppers will be re-fuelled with a festive Jagermeister bar to help keep them in a suspended state of shopping happiness. 55DSL also have somegreat surprises up their sleeves as well… Really, you won’t be disappointed - *crosses heart and hopes to die*
Most people will know Matt as the artist renowned for drawing an uber-cute world of animals and girls in pastel palettes and for the festive period 55DSL have commissioned a life size version of his work of a polar bear. The 6ft creature will be camping outside the store complete with a head sized hole for shoppers to stick their faces through and have their photo taken as a real-life piece of art and experience being hugged by a polar bear!
Join them for art, shopping, booze and music (but not necessarily in that order!)

Daniel Eatock
We are delighted to see the Kemistry Gallery is hosting a solo exhibition of the work by Daniel Eatock. We are big fans of Daniels work and have spent lots of time checking throught the work on his website.
The show will be entitled ‘Editions & Originals’ and will presents a collection of works and ideas in a multitude of permutations, all linked by the belief in concept first.
Eatock is interested in connections between image and language, titles, punch lines, miscommunication, subversions, open systems, contributions from others, seriality, collections, discovery and inventing. Eatock makes conceptual things that are resolved in a reductive, logical and objective way, and is especially interested in the connection of the start and end points of a hand drawn circle. Eatock’s work responds to personal fascinations and the desire to invent, discover and present. From an edition of prints made using every colour Pantone felt-tip pen, to the ongoing Channel 4’s Big Brother identity, all work is unified in its conceptual, reductive, rational attempt at forming an answer or a conclusion. The simple notion that work made without a brief is ‘art’ and work made in response to a brief is ‘design’, does not fit, art and design cross, merge and collide challenging preconceptions from each respective discipline.
To find out more about Daniel Eatock’s work please visit www.eatock.com

Zevs' Liquidated Logos

Zevs’s new exhibition opening on 16 November at Lazarides Gallery will be his first London solo exhibition. LIQUIDATED LOGOS presents a new docufiction film based on the artist’s activities over the last ten years alongside a series of unseen screen prints of famous logos, liquidated on large coloured plexiglass boards.
Zevs’s work primarily plays with and explores visual effects. Re-painting the logos in their own colours, the artist pours paint over them, liquidating one logo after another. Through the parallel lines of the drips, the logos dissolve in front of the viewers eyes, drawing attention to, and visually disturbing the recognizable and omnipresent trademark as illustrated above. By doing so, Zevs investigates the logo’s visual power.
French street artist Zevs was an early and influential graffiti artist and is among the prominent figures who pioneered the French street art scene. He was active as a tagger in Paris in the 1990’s, and by the end of the decade he had become widely known for his poetic drawings of shadows in Paris. His name derives from an encounter with a regional train, Zeus, which almost ran him over as a child. He is also well known for ‘attacking’ billboards and commercials in the cityscape, where pin up girls and boys have been shot between the eyes with a spray can, leaving the blood red paint running.

CONOR HARRINGTON ON THE STREET

If you are down Brick Lane way, keep your eyes open for this fantastic piece that fellow Irishman Conor Harrington painted last week. While out taking pictures over the weekend, we were lucky enough to see Conor put the finishing touches to the piece on Saturday afternoon. Located just off Brick Lane and painted over two huge gates, you really need to see the piece on the street to get an idea of the scale.
We believe Conor has a solo show planned for early next year here in London and if this piece is anything to go by, its gonna be one hell of a show. For now you can check out Conors website which has been updates recently with both his indoor and outdoor work. Have a look here.
