NON-FORMAT BOOK

One of my favourite design studios Non-Format are releasing a book on Die-gestalten, titled "Love Song" the book is set to drop on the 16th May.

Non-Format is a London-based design studio comprised of the Norwegian Kjell Ekhorn and the Brit Jon Forss. This creative team has built a formidable international reputation with exceptional graphic design and illustrations that are strikingly innovative and fresh yet have a timelessness that goes beyond fleeting style trends.

The monograph Non-Format presents the full spectrum of their work, which ranges from delicate drawings for album covers to riveting advertisements for Coke and Nike as well as pristine graphic design for publications such as Varoom or the UK music magazine The Wire.

In addition to their best project work for clients from the music, fashion and advertising industries as well as for culture and the arts, Non-Format also contains original work that was created exclusively for the book.

Head over to the Non-Formats website here to view some more of their work.

WE'RE BACK

After a week of chillin in Brooklyn, we are back in sunny London. While New York was a blast, the wheather was really shit. I think we had like one or two nice days. It was so cold i had to buy a few extra layers while there, plus we had torrential rain last Sunday. It rained for like 27+ hours without stopping once, insane stuff! We only ventured out once for brunch- eggs, bacon, fried green tomatoes, biscuits with white gravy and sausage ( sooo good) and an insanse amount of coffee. All good.

I checked out a bunch of good shows including new works from Dalek at the Jonathan Levine Gallery. The work was super tight, really hard to believe that the work has been painted its so perfectly flat and flawless. As there was a very strict no photos policy at the gallery I dont have any pictures from the show but here is an image from the gallery website of one of the canvases.

More images from the show can be seen over on there website here.

I also checked out a great design show at the Riviera Gallery in Williamsburg Brooklyn, titled True Belivers and curated by Matt Owen of Volume One. True Believers featured a group of designers who created original artwork for the Riviera with their Influences and inspirations ranging from skateboarding, punk/postpunk, and early hip hop to 70s educational graphics, 60's countercultures, and the Swiss style all resulting in some fresh work. To view some of the work that was on show check this website here.

Shouts of to Sal, Katie and Billie, Kate, Rich and Charlotte, the Overspray Team, Skewville and all who made it a memorable trip. Back tothe London stuff.

Mark Jenkins In London

Washington DC-based installation artist Mark Jenkins has over the past four years experimented with clear packing tape (sellotape) to create cast-based sculpture that he installs in cities as a form of non-permission based street art, a sort of “off-wall” graffiti. The works’ humour and surreal nature has helped generate huge interest amongst the public and re-engaged them with their built environment. Jenkins is now bringing his art to the UK, and for his first solo show at the Lazarides gallery he will present an assemblage of sculptures and documentary street installation photographs.

Exhibition Dates: Fri 13th of April - Sat 12th of May

DAN WITZ Exhibition
At STOLEN SPACE Gallery

Stolen Space Gallery present Dan Witz first UK solo Show 6th April- 6th May.

As a street artist, Dan Witz lends wit, color, and grace to New York City.
As an oil painter, he seduces outsiders into warm homes and lit
storefronts. Though different from the hoodies and skaters he paints onto
public space, these paintings are a gentle reminder that, once in a while,
everyone needs to come inside. In the 1980s, Witz was also a musician
involved in the downtown art-punk scene. He currently lives in Brooklyn
and splits his time between making gallery paintings and street art.
